Kathrin Winkler The Yogini

Kathrin Winkler, Hotel Prinzregent, Nürnberg

Yoga is an important balance to my daily work. I start every day with a salute to the sun and my yoga mat is always within reach. I sometimes like to practice on the green space of the Wöhrd Meadow near the Wöhrd Lake, which is right in front of the door of our Hotel Prinzregent. Time spent enjoying nature and the peace it brings is very relaxing for me. For the last three years yoga has given me time to reflect during the stress of the day and to focus on things that are truly important.

I also like to go jogging and bicycling. Many of my guests also enjoy these active hobbies. That's why we always have free-of-charge bikes on hand so they can explore our beautiful Nuremberg on two wheels ... because the city with all its amenities like culture, shopping, restaurants and bars is just around the corner from our green paradise.

Our hotel is located on Prinzregentenufer: Lined with a row of plane trees, it is one of the grandest streets in Nuremberg. We are located in a glamourous art nouveau building, built in the early 1900s and owned by the family since the 1950s. I took over the hotel by chance from my mother-in-law. Although I didn't grow up in the hotel business, I am thankful today that I have chosen this job - I can't imagine anything nicer.

I enjoy my contact with guests, the creative freedom I enjoy in our private hotel and working together with my team. It's important to me that my co-workers like to come to work and enjoy it. That fits with my philosophy of life. That's also why we always try to create the best working conditions. Because my children - a four and eight year old - are often in the hotel, there's a real family feeling at work. We're a great team and guests can see that!

Favorite Spots MyTips

Wöhrd Lake

Nature, peace, relaxation, no stress, a place to take a deep breath - that's what the area around the Wöhrd Lake means to me. I go jogging there every Sunday morning: I start at the hotel, head over Wöhrd Meadow, run along the city beach and then head along the other side of the lake. I and my family often like to take a turn on the lake in a pedal boat and then enjoy a cool drink - my favorite is a shandy - at the Wiesnbiergarten.

Nuremberg‘s Shopping Mile

In Nuremberg's shopping mile there is a great mix of large department stores and lots of little boutiques. You can find something for every budget and enjoy a relaxed day shopping. My tip: In the little Italian-style Caffè-BAR "Di Simo" at the Trödelmarkt, you can take a short break for espresso or prosecco and then take a look at the "Galerie Voigt" for contemporary art and modern jewelry

Kopernikusgarten

My absolutely favorite beer garden - the Kopernikusgarten - is idyllically tucked in on top of the old city wall just three minutes away from the hotel. Best of all: you reach it from the medieval battlements. Here you can sample Polish and Franconian specialties. I love the flavorful meat patties and the gigantic fresh and crispy salads. On Sunday, we like to eat the traditional Franconian Schäufele pork shoulder. The Kopernikusgarten also has indoor seating on cool days.

Classic Open Air

The Classic Open Air concerts in Luitpoldhain have become the largest outdoor classical music events in Europe! We're there every year with family and friends: On picnic blankets, enjoying all kinds of delicious snacks and wonderful music, we toast to my birthday. When thousands of people light up their sparklers, it produces a magical atmosphere. The lavish fireworks during the final piece create a fantastic finale for the evening.
