Wöhrder Lake and Wöhrder Meadow
90489 NürnbergNuremberg, a compact city. From the Old Town, you can reach Wöhrder meadow in just a few minutes and relax after a strenuous day of shopping, in the office or at university. The lower Wöhrder Lake is a favorite recreational area for joggers, bicyclists and walkers, while the upper Wöhrder Lake is home to rare birds and plants. In summer, you can rent boats on the lower lake.
You can reach Wöhrder Meadow directly from Nuremberg's shopping district by walking over the Insel Schütt along the Pegnitz River. Around the Field of Experiences for the Senses, which draws almost 100,000 visitors each summer to this park near the Nuremberg Old Town, there is always a lot happening: Whether it's frisbee, skating on inliners, riding bikes, playing football or enjoying a cool drink while lounging at the Wies'n beer garden, this is a favorite spot, especially for students from the nearby university.
Further east at the Adenauerbrücke, a wild rider gallops away on a water-spouting horse - a replica from the ensemble of the Neptune Fountain in Nuremberg's city park. The 25-meter-high fountain of water spews into the western end of the Wöhrder Lake. This artificial lake was created to stop flooding in the Old Town and is, along with its surrounding meadows and forest, a landscape conservation area. The upper and lower Wöhrder Lakes are 2.6 kilometers long and up to 200 meters wide.
