Practice makes perfect - Stefan Stretz from Nuremberg started his first attempts at brewing at the age of 16. He found a beer recipe in his grandmother's cookery book and tried it out straight away. His ambition was awakened and so he progressed step by step. After training and studying in Berlin, he is now the owner of the second largest private brewery in Nuremberg.
The new brewery building in Nuremberg-Höfen was completed in January 2016. Production of the main and speciality varieties on the new modern brewing plant could begin. It was finally possible to brew larger quantities to meet the increasing demand. "Our aim is to be a pioneer of urban beer culture. Traditional varieties - but interpreted in a modern way!" is how Stefan Stretz describes the brewery's aspirations and direction.
Today, the brewery's main varieties include Rotbier, Helles, Kehlengold, Pils and non-alcoholic Rotbier Radler. Schanzenbräu also offers Märzen, Sommerbier, Roter Bock and Festbier seasonally. The beers brewed are all unfiltered.
Incidentally, the first beers were brewed in 2004 with friends in the cellar of a backyard workshop in Gostenhof. At that time, the beer was mashed in disused wash kettles. Sawed open beer barrels were converted into fermentation vats. The name and logo of the brewery were also created here in Bärenschanzstraße.
All varieties are available in the brewery's lager shop.
