Tasty tips: Michael Groß

Where does a burger expert like to go to eat? What tips can he offer tourists to Nuremberg? Read here what Michael Groß thinks you shouldn't miss.

How would you describe Nuremberg in three words?

Changing - hip - "gemütlich"

In your opinion, which culinary specialties does Nuremberg have that you can't find in other cities of its type?

On one hand, there are Nuremberg bratwurst and gingerbread, which I think everyone already knows. Nuremberg is a mecca for food trucks, which offer all kinds of delicious treats all over the city. There are burger joints in other cities, but in Nuremberg we now have such a great selection, that people make a whole burger tour to try all the places.

What personal dining tip would you give a tourist who is coming to Nuremberg? Is there something a visitor must try?

Oh...naturally it depends on a lot of factors. Whether you want to eat pork shoulder and dumpling in the Old Town at 5 in the morning or want to indulge yourself with a high-class meal in one of the great little Gostenhof restaurants or if you like raw fish and want to try some at one of the amazing Japanese restaurants in town... But if I have to stick to one, I think I'll go back to the basics and recommend the "Schnepperschütz" on a beautiful, warm summer afternoon: Grab one of the delicious open-faced sandwiches and a fresh beer and just sit on the warmed stairs of the city wall or lie in the park and let the sun shine!
