Culinary Specialties at the Nuremberg Christkindlesmarkt

The irresistible scent of gingerbread, spices, mulled wine and roasting bratwurst fills the red and white rows of the Nuremberg Christkindlesmarkt. The culinary specialties on offer range from the famous Nuremberg bratwurst and gingerbread to Franconian beer to the largest “Feuerzangenbowle” in the world.

Nuremberg Gingerbread, Potato Pancakes and Bratwurst

Nuremberg Bratwurst with their typical scent of marjoram can only be produced within the Nuremberg city limits and according to a specially-defined recipe. At the Christmas Market you will mainly find them as “Drei im Weggla”, three sausages in a white roll. In the sausage kitchens you’ll find near the market, they will be served freshly grilled on a pewter plate with horseradish or sauerkraut –accompanied by freshly-tapped Franconian beer. Nuremberg Lebkuchen are also an origin-protected product and as Nuremberg’s #1 Christmas export, they are a can’t-be-missed treat at the Nuremberg Christmas Market.

Crispy-fried “Baggers”, the Franconian version of the potato pancake, are also on offer. The Christkindlesmarkt is an oasis for fans of sweet treats and baked goods: fresh waffles with powdered sugar, crêpes, Christmas-stollen and crunchy pretzels are available around every corner.

At the edge of the Christkindlesmarkt, you can experience the largest Feuerzangenbowle – a red wine and rum punch – in the world. Across from the historical city hall, in the booths of Original Regional, local growers and producers from Franconia, the Upper Palatinate and Thuringia offer high-quality traditional regional specialties.
