Climbing in the Altmühl Valley

Rock climbers have recognized the Altmühl Valley Nature Park as one of the most important climbing areas in Germany for many decades: After all, the cliffs in the Franconian Jura offer optimal conditions almost all year long.

Climbers love the many possibilities available in the Altmühl Valley. There’s the right route for every type of climber: Vertical rock faces, overhangs, fissures, small protrusions – Routes with Degrees of Difficulty from III to X can be found in the Konstein/Aicha, Dollnstein and Prunn/Essing climbing areas. Children and beginners can get their first experience at the “Asterix & Obelix“ children’s climbing area, more advanced climbers can try new terrain and real sport freaks can push themselves to the limit. The Burgstein Cliff, located near Dollnstein, is a dream-come-true for rock climbers. It has more than 30 routes. In Konstein/Aicha, the Dohlenfels is a classic: Up to 35-meter-high walls offer 59 climbing paths. The 25-meter-high Madonna tower features 16 climbs.
