When you want to experience Franconian culture, then you shouldn’t miss the Nuremberg Fairs. Along with the Christkindlesmarkt, which is the most famous event in the city, the Nuremberg Spring and Autumn Fairs are the most important folkloric traditions in the cultural life of the city.
Both fairs take place next to the Dutzendteich Lake. In this pleasant atmosphere you can enjoy dance, music and culinary delights of the different seasons in Nuremberg.
The best fairs in Nuremberg
At the end of August and beginning of September each year, the Autumn Fair offers a full program. In addition to regional food and entertainment, each year guests from other countries – China, for example – are invited to present aspects of their culture. Two weeks long you can experience something different each day at the Fair: The ceremonial tapping of a beer keg, Nuremberg sausage, brass bands and parades. On opening day, the organizers parade through the fairgrounds. Each year, the big finale is the huge firework which lights up the whole southern part of town.
For parents and children there is a special family day: All rides on carousels and roller coasters and one item at each stand are available for half price.
By the way: The Nuremberg Fairs are recognized at the cleanest and safest fairs in Germany and in 2013 were awarded the title "The Best City Fair" by the Stiftung Lebendige Stadt.
The Spring Fair
The Spring Fair takes place in March and April. Then, games, roller coasters, food stands and a large concert stage in a festival tent invite you to enjoy folklore and more. Most years, the fair takes place during Easter, which is then celebrated. Children can join in an exciting Easter egg hunt and learn how to paint eggs.
