The Imperial Castle Museum, a branch of the Germanisches Nationalmuseum, displays important original artifacts from its valuable collection of weapons in the Kemenate Building of the Nuremberg Imperial Castle. The Nuremberg Castle unites structures from the time of the Salian emperors, the Hohenzollern castle counts of Nuremberg and the Holy Roman Emperor. The permanent exhibit in the Imperial Castle Museum gives visitors a vivid look at the architectural history of the castle, its historical importance and the historical development of weapons in the Middle Ages. The exhibit focuses on weapons and armor, riding equipment and astronomical devices and objects from festivities and daily life – all with a tie to the Nuremberg castle. The objects also give an overview of the history of the development of weapons in the German-speaking world.
