Sustainable development means taking evnrionmental criteria into consideration on an equal footing with social and economic factors: This maxim is followed in many ways at the Nuremberg Christkindlesmarkt. To support the regional economy, a good portion of the products offered are produced locally in small handicraft firms. The market stands are built from local pine and are reused year after year: More than 30 of the historical booths date back to 1890. Since 2012, the Christkindlesmarkt is supplied with renewable electricity from regional hydroelectric ad photovoltaic systems. Since 1990, all mulled wine at the market is served using the successful reusable mug system, which was developed here to reduce waste....
