The Documentation Centre Nazi Party Rally Grounds – opened in 2001 on the former Nazi Party Rally Grounds – is located at one end of the Congress Hall and is particularly known for its architecturally striking entrance. Until renovation work began in 2021, the centre's permanent exhibition, ‘Fascination and Terror,’ provided information about the era of the Nuremberg Reich Party Rallies and the terror of the totalitarian system. The new permanent exhibition at the Documentation Centre will open in 2026. Until then, an interim exhibition will provide information about the history of the site. New parts of the redesigned Documentation Centre are already accessible: the new barrier-free entrance area on the ground floor, the new foyer with a new café, the modern event hall and the ticket area on the first floor.
Expanded building and new permanent exhibition from 2026
The future, completely redesigned permanent exhibition will go far beyond what has been presented to date in terms of both content and methods. The focus will be on the history of the historic Nazi Party Rally Grounds from the end of the First World War to the present day. However, this narrative will be expanded in many places and placed in a national and international context.
The exhibition, designed in German and English, will rely heavily on multimedia and interactive formats, making it modern and contemporary. Biographies illustrate the diversity of European society – even under the conditions of the Nazi dictatorship. At selected stations, visitors are ultimately called upon to take a stand and develop their own attitudes – towards history and the present. Inclusion will be a central component of the new concept – from the visitor guidance system to appropriately designed modules in the exhibition and the catering facilities.
