You’ll already notice it at the train station: It’s party time in Nuremberg. Every year in May or June, the mega-music festival Rock im Park takes over the Franconian metropolis. These are days when people of different generations and personalities meet who have just one thing in common: A love of hard music. This is a time where there are no appointments and no obligations. You can sleep as long as you want, party all day and the whole night long and you only have to make sure that you don’t miss your favorite bands.
Rock im Park – A Concert and a Party
The rock festival was founded in 1997 as an event parallel to Rock am Ring. Since then it has been a success: Tickets are sometimes sold out months in advance. In 2012, a record 76,000 guests took part. The event takes place on the Zeppelin Field on the Dutzendteich Lake, part of the former Nazi Party Rally Grounds. Most of the visitors to the festival camp on the grounds – as close as possible to what’s happening so that they won’t miss a second of partying. The music begins each day at noon and the party ends late in the night.
The bands play everything from pop-rock to punk to metal. Many of the artists are known internationally or (better-said) are legend. Die Toten Hosen and Metallica perform regularly. And Rammstein, Marilyn Manson and Depeche Mode were also here. If you take a look at the lineup you’ll no doubt find more than one of your favorite bands – so why not take advantage of it and visit all the concerts?
