Franconians are famous for their culinary specialties. Whether bratwurst, beer, wine or home-cooked meals both light and hearty: In Nuremberg, we know how to enjoy food! You can try the delights of the local cuisine at the Nuremberg Autumn Market, which takes place each year at the same time as the Old Town Festival. At the end of the summer, the second-largest city in Bavaria transforms itself into a colorful market. In addition to a multi-faceted entertainment program, arts and crafts and household goods such as dishes and pottery are also on offer.
Enjoy the Autumn Market in Nuremberg with all your senses
It already smells delicious when the Autumn Market opens in the morning and the scent of onion tart and Nuremberg bratwurst fills the air. As dance groups and the horse-drawn wagons of the breweries gather on Jakobsmarkt for a parade to the Old Town Festival, the first guests are strolling through the stands on the Nuremberg Main Market Square. More than 80 merchants offer household items and arts and crafts: You’ll find hand-made baskets and wickerwork, hand-blown art glass and at an open-air cooking studio you can acquaint yourself with the secrets of Franconian cuisine.
Franconian culinary delights
Stroll along the lanes of the market and experience how the market women loudly advertise their goods. From potato peeler to noodle press: You’ll find everything you can imagine for your kitchen at the Autumn Market. Ceramic dishes and brightly-painted mugs are on sale too. If you are searching for the local Nuremberg traditional costume, you’ll also find it here. Art and antiques collectors can find unusual objects from grandma’s days. The innkeepers open their stalls and offer Franconian onion tart and Nuremberg Gwerch: A small meal made up of head cheese and sausage salad with cheese and tomatoes. If you eat “Stadtwurst mit Musik” – sliced sausages and onions in a spicy sauce – make sure you enjoy a glass of new wine or a freshly tapped beer, before you head home with your own personal souvenir from the Nuremberg Autumn Market.
