Nobel families erected castles and palaces; prince bishops built magnificent churches and abbeys. In the Platy limestone of the western Altmühl Valley, many dinosaurs have immortalized themselves as fossils in the stone. In the valley’s many museums, the treasures of the past are presented to visitors. Some quarries are open to visitors and are ideal terrain for amateur paleontologists and fossil seekers.
