Sabine Powels The Nature Lover

In the 1920's, my great grandfather, Joseph Schuler, took over the Hotel Victoria. Since then it has belonged to my family. You could say that the hotel business is in my blood. Yet it was probably enormous good luck that I could first go my own way, before settling down.

You can't say that my family forced me into the hotel business - until I chose it I had never spent a night in a hotel! Hard to believe, but true! We always traveled with a camper and the freedom of being on the road was what was passed on to me. So maybe it is natural that I have spent every free holiday for the last few years in my own orange camper bus. Even if I only have a short time, there are plenty of places close to Nuremberg that are particularly attractive. The main thing is to have my mountain bike and stand up paddle aboard, because the thing that most appeals to me are new discoveries, experiencing nature and getting out for some exercise.

Once and a while I am allowed on the roof of the Neues Museum. Here, I visit my bee hives together with my beekeeper Mr. Kobr, to see how our Hotel Victoria bees are doing. After all, we offer our guests organic honey from our own bees!

Because I love to travel and always want to see more of the world, I almost didn't take my grandfather's offer to take over the hotel. Thank goodness I was in love with Nuremberg, so I didn't miss the chance. I was only 24 years old. And I can always say with my whole heart that I don't regret my choice. I am proud and thankful for what we have achieved over the past 20 years. We have a hotel that can look back in pride at a more than 100-year-old tradition, yet offers a modern face today. Welcome!

Favorite Spots MyTips

KulturGarten

For me, the KulturGarten is a really special place. It's a beer garden in the heart of the city and, as the name says, it has a cultural program. There are live concerts every week and starting at 4 pm the grills are fired up to cook great food. The KunstKulturQuartier is also a favorite place in winter: Each year the WinterKiosk offers sustainable gifts. It's amazing to see the clever ideas that can be put into life with a little creative handiwork.

Wöhrd Lake

Because I'm always on a bike in the city, everything seems nearby. That's one of the reasons I find Nuremberg so exciting. With a bike it's only a minute or two from the hotel to the Wöhrder Lake: I love to rent a stand up paddle and take a turn around the lake in the evening ... I feel like I'm on vacation. It's one of my favorite things to do.

Craftsmen’s Courtyard

A stroll through the Craftsmen's Courtyard next to the hotel makes me feel as if time has stood still. Sometimes, when it is really hectic, a little trip back in time does a lot of good ... If I'm hungry there's nothing better than a traditional "Drei im Weggla" - three bratwurst in a hard roll - from the historical bratwurst kitchen of "Bratwurstglöcklein".

Klarissenplatz

As close as it gets ... the Klarissenplatz. The best time of all is in spring when the cherry trees behind our hotel are blooming - it's a wonderful scene in all colors of pink. I love to sit on the steps of our café with a cup of latte and enjoy the moment, watching the happenings on the square reflected in the glass façade of the Neues Museum.
