From the city of the Nazi Party Rallies to the city of Human Rights: As an answer to the past, the intellectual, political and social life of Nuremberg is filled with activities which focus on the worldwide abuse of human rights. Thematically tied to the awarding of Nuremberg International Human Rights Prize, the Nuremberg International Human Rights Film Festival honors works with the same focus with its Nuremberg Film Prize for Human Rights.

Mutual respect and acceptance are the basis for peace and freedom in our world. In a place beyond prejudice and clichés, where people can understand and know others, tolerance is much easier. And what media could be a better means to convey the idea of tolerance - far away from the abstraction of laws and regulations - as film? That's the reason so many contributions to the film festival show developments in various contemporary cultures and illustrate how new religious and political beliefs are the cause of abuse of human rights.
