Peter Noventa - Tiergartenrestaurant Waldschänke

My name is Peter Noventa and I was born in 1948 in Nuremberg. Since 1974, I've been creating and managing restaurants together with my wife Helga. We both have a "typical restaurant career". We studied art education (from 1971) at the Academy of Fine Arts in Nuremberg and at the Friedrich Alexander University in Erlangen (I studied art history and sociology; she studied art history and English language and literature). Both of us finished with a state examination in 1977.

Despite the fact that my education was far away from the field of gastronomy, both of us have gathered practical experience at various culinary "stations": In 1974 at the "Wiener Café" in the Kaiserstraße with its confectionary and three branches, since 1986 at conventions at the special exhibit of AFAG (in 1987, the first organic whole-food restaurant at the Consumenta Fair), from 1994 at the Café Real with culinary theater (since 1996 with our own productions) and in 1997 at the Restaurant Landauer in Eckstein, the center for the Lutheran church in Nuremberg. Since 1997, we have been at our current place, the Tiergartenrestaurant Waldschänke, located at the Nuremberg Zoo. In 2005, we added the "Culinary Theater in the Zoo", with, in part, music I have composed myself. Through the combination of knowledge gained in the study of art and our long-term experience in catering, we can offer our guests a dining experience that is one-of-its-kind in Nuremberg.

I've been happily married for almost 43 years. I love my wife Helga, who is the most important person in the business - without her most things wouldn't work - and my two children: Tobias, who is a clothing designer in Berlin, and Astrid, who is a costume designer in Berlin.
