Post Coach Rides at the Nuremberg Christkindlesmarkt

Wrapped in a cozy blanket and seated on a plush seat, listening to the joyful sound of bells and the clatter of hooves: Could there be a better way to enjoy the Nuremberg Christmas Market than with a romantic post coach ride? When the snowflakes start to drift by your window, all the joys of Christmas come to mind – these are the happy memories that last forever.

For almost 60 years, visitors to the Nuremberg Christkindlesmarkt can take a  ca.15 minute ride through the joyful scenes at the market in two historical post coaches from the  Communications Museum Nuremberg. The nine-seater mail coach, which is a reproduction of a Berlin with two coupés from 1874, and a post “omnibus” from around 1900 are pulled by two Rheinland Heavy Draft horses. They are used to crowds and remain friendly and calm no matter how busy it gets. A postilion plays on a golden horn to signal arrival and departure of the coach and an experienced coachman leads the majestic animals through the streets and lanes.

The post coach trips during the Christmas Market begin from a stop north of the Beautiful Fountain daily from 1 to 7 pm. Next to the stop, visitors can buy tickets for the ride at a special Christmas “post office” – and mail their Christmas cards stamped with an exclusive Christkindlesmarkt postmark.

Date: during the Christkindlesmarkt, December 2 to 23,2017

Location: Rathausplatz
